Pretend it's a hummer.

  Artist:
Sharon Stevens has been courted, teased and rescued from fire for a long time. Like anybody, she's freaked out and then gives a nod to the rejuvenation and rebirth that erupts or just smolders from the flame. She compresses herself into many personas as an artist, activist; working from the inside to disrupt the outside. One day she will be caught with the matches in her back pocket. But until then she is artist-in-residence at EMMEDIA and invites you to participate in her OX: A Crash-course on Loving Calgary, Saturday December 5 noon - 4 PM at EMMEDIA.

Description:
Born and raised on oil. A moralistic tale. We've primed the planet for destruction (and it's not b/c of 2012 predictions!) Fingers are pointing at Alberta. What's it gonna take?

This two- minute video is a teaser for future possibilities; shot by Noel Begin and Michael Welchman, rough cut edit by Michael Welchman.

In the spring of 2006, The Arusha Centre planet was created with many hands at many different community events. During the course of its short life it was a lantern at the Folk Festival in 2007 and was last seen at the Nightmare before Copenhagen March last month. The ragged and torn and beat up world was no longer viable, so I set fire to it. Just like that. Poof.

This next evolution of the 'planet' can continue to be a community built effort. I am seeking writers, editors, musicians, sound designers to add your interpretation of the footage as an open source, collaborative project.
End result? We can use it as a calling card for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen or for awareness raising efforts for the average Calgarian. Let's get it screened at a FLAMES game!
